Resident Advisory Council: Food Statement 2022
June 29, 2022 | Resident Advisory Council
- Residents in long-term care require access to healthy food with high-quality nutrition.
- Residents need to always have access to water.
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are vital for all diets.
- Every resident has unique dietary requirements based on preferences, culture, and health conditions. It is important that residents’ health requirements and wishes factor into their available food options.
- Residents need access to accurate information about their food including nutrition information so that they can make informed decisions.
- Long-Term Care Facility staff are essential to ensuring quality nutrition and timeliness of delivery. They need to be fairly compensated to avoid high turnover rates and further education on nutrition.
- All facilities need to accommodate vegetarian/vegan, Kosher/Halal, or other religious-based diets.
- We need research on what is currently being served at long-term care facilities to be able to create and implement enforceable rules and guidelines to ensure residents receive quality nutrition.
